A Different Country

This category is the book you picked that is set outside the country you live in. The author can live in your same country but the book needs to take place elsewhere. Were there any elements about the setting that surprised you? How did it influence the story and the characters?

If you have a blog, you can add the perma-link to the Mr. Linky below. If you don't have a blog, you can write your thoughts on the book in the comments section of this post.

I read The Guards by Ken Bruen and dish a little about it over on my blog.

Broke my own rule about not saying anything bad about a book. Nothing scathing, just a not-for-me book.
Not sure what category I'll tackle next.

Help! I don't see where I click to add my link. But I read THE ICE PRINCESS: Review is here.

Amy MacKinnon's TETHERED will stay with me for a long time. It is an exquisitely rendered novel rife with pain and the remarkable human capacity to endure.

Claire Wolfe

I have just finished reading The Stonecutter by Camilla Lackberg. She is a Swedish crime writer and the whole book is swet in Sweden. I really enjoyed it and it's highley recommended

Naomi Johnson

I just finished MURDER AT THE CAT SHOW by Marian Babson. It takes place in England. I had to read it for book club this month. I'd say more but I have to go hack up a hairball.

Judy Bobalik

THE BODY ON THE BEACH by Simon Brett. It's set in England.

Jen Forbus

Naomi, hahahahahaha! You're crackin' me up.

I'm seeing some totally new to me titles/authors here and making lots of notes!

Naomi Johnson

Just finished Craig McDonald's lovely ONE TRUE SENTENCE, which takes place in Paris. I'm replacing that earlier feline monstrosity with this much more enjoyable book.

Rhonda H.

I read THE LIKENESS by Tana French - set in Ireland. Love, love, love her work.

James Thompson, author of Lucifer's Tears, was Kentucky born and bred, but now makes his home in Finland. His Inspector Kari Vaara is a wonderfully flawed character who brings Harry Bosch to mind.

DEATH BEFORE WICKET by Kerry Greenwood, about the quirky and interesting and always enjoyable Phryne Fisher in Australia. I enjoy seeing Australia through Phryne's eyes, she always shows us something specifically set there and describes the places so well, as well as the characters and their ways. There's only one Phryne! and only one Australia too. :-)

Devil's Food by Kerry Greenwood is set in Melbourne, Australia and came in my book bag at LCC. I do enjoy reading about Corinna and Daniel, and the other people that live in her building or work in her bakery.

I read The Chalk Circle Man by Fred Vargas. I may need a do-over as this book really didn't do much for me.

Happy Dissertating

Read Blue Lightning by Ann Cleeves set in Scotland. Love her stuff!
